McDonald's Planning Application

Following the publication of the planning application from McDonald's Restaurants Ltd, the applicant itself put out on its Facebook page a way of showing support for the application. The vast majority of comments in support of this seemed to come from Stranraer, and not Cairnryan itself. This would seem imbalanced, and there has been no guidance for those who object to the application, of which there are several within the Cairnryan community.
We would like to redress this balance, and would direct local residents to the following link which gives step by step guidance on how to object, including the type of objections that will be considered. It only takes six letters of objection for the application to be referred to the Planning Application Committee.
Should you wish to object, please see this sample letter which you can complete or amend to suit your own individual objection, and email it to planningrepresentations@dumgal.gov.uk
For further guidance on the commenting process for planning applications, please see this link:

You can email the Planning Department at planningrepresentations@dumgal.gov.uk, so long as you include the following, but note that whilst personal details such as telephone numbers, email addresses and signatures will be removed, all comments will be made public:
- your full name and address
- the date
- your email address
- an application reference number and property address (24/2563/FUL at Former Lochryan Hotel Cairnryan Stranraer DG9 8QX)
- the grounds on which you're commenting
From the feedback that has been received by the CCC, the attached response seems to reflect the majority voice of the village, with only a couple of Cairnryan families supporting the application. In addition, we have also recently been made aware of the following BBC News article.

Given that the support is predominantly coming from Stranraer, would indicate that the appetite for a McDonald's is in the town where there is plenty of waterfront parking for cars and trucks, and even a vacant lot at the former Custom House pub. So it would seem sensible for the McDonald's to be sited there rather than Cairnryan.
Once again, if you wish to object, please complete or amend this letter to suit your objection, and email it to planningrepresentations@dumgal.gov.uk. If you don't have access to email, please contact a member of the Cairnryan Community Council who can send it on your behalf.
